Founded in 1952, Adler School of Professional Psychology is the oldest independent school of psychology in North America. The School is named after Alfred Adler (1870-1937), the first community psychologist, who was the first to do group counseling, family counseling, and public mental health education, and who began community, preventative, and positive psychologies. Adler School is committed to continuing the work of Alfred Adler by producing socially responsible graduates, by providing holistic services to individuals and communities, and by promoting social justice.
Vision: For the past 56 years, the Adler School of Professional Psychology has prepared outstanding professionals and advanced the work of the world's first community psychologist, Alfred Adler. Today, the Adler School continues this work, making social responsibility its primary focus and the driving force in all its curricula and initiatives.
Aligning their work with society's needs means they believe psychologists must look up from their clients, see the systems and forces that brought their clients to them, and realize their responsibility and ability to change those systems and communities. Their innovative and broadened curricula prepare students to work with individuals, families, and communities as socially responsible practitioners.
