Australian Psychological Society

The Australian Psychological Society (APS) is the largest professional association for psychologists in Australia, representing more than 18,000 members. The APS is committed to advancing psychology as a discipline and profession. It spreads the message that psychologists make a difference to peoples’ lives, through improving scientific knowledge and community wellbeing.

APS members form a dynamic group that advocate for psychologists at all levels of government. They are constantly promoting the contributions psychology makes to people's health and wellbeing, and to understanding important social issues facing Australian society.

Goals:

  • Increase advocacy for psychology and community wellbeing
  • Increase the Society’s impact on a range of Government policies
  • Enhance the profile of APS psychologists and psychology and increase public access to and utilisation of psychological services
  • Strengthen APS relationships and profile with key external bodies to further develop and promote psychology
  • Improve support for the scientific discipline of psychology
  • Improve support for the profession of psychology
  • Establish and support the achievement of high standards for psychology
  • Improve member satisfaction with the Society
  • Become a stronger and more cohesive Society
  • Develop and maintain effective, ‘best practice’ Governance
