Dr. Aaron Beck and his daughter, Dr. Judith Beck, founded the non-profit Beck Institute for Cognitive Therapy and Research in suburban Philadelphia in 1994, to establish national and international training programs in Cognitive Therapy, frequently referred to as Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), for health and mental health professionals and educators at all levels of experience and expertise. Another mission has been to help create or improve cognitive behavior therapy programs at universities, hospitals, community mental health centers, health systems, and other organizations. The Beck Institute also provides clinical care and research consultation.
Mission: The mission of the non-profit Beck Institute for Cognitive Therapy and Research shall be as follows:
- To function as an international training center for psychologists, psychiatrists, clinical social workers, nurses and other mental health professionals through offering a broad range of training opportunities including an Extramural program and a Visitors program;
- To conduct research and consult on research grants and provide information on outcome studies relevant to the efficacy of cognitive therapy, based on scientific research methodology and to develop new assessment scales as appropriate;
- To provide direct clinical services on a sliding fee basis, treating a wide range of psychiatric problems on an outpatient basis for adolescents, adults and older adults;
- To promote conferences, workshops and symposia where the latest creative ideas in the field of cognitive therapy will be disseminated and discussed, and to provide a Speaker’s Bureau of experienced cognitive therapists who will offer outreach to the Delaware Valley community through free workshops, and to national and international groups through reasonable-fee presentations;
