British Columbia Schizophrenia Society - Victoria Branch

BCSS Victoria was formed in 1984 and is the largest branch of the BC Schizophrenia Society with over 280 members. The Victoria Branch is run by two full time staff, 12 contract staff, a part time accountant, 12 board members and over 70 experienced volunteers who provide support, information and referrals.

The Victoria Branch of BCSS is supported by the United Way of Greater Victoria, private donations, fundraising activities, a Vancouver Island Health Authority (VIHA) contract, BC Gaming, the Allen & Loreen Vandekerkove Family Foundation and the Victoria Foundation.

What they do:

  • Support family members and individuals with schizophrenia, bipolar, psychosis with or without addictions
  • Educate and inform the general public about the nature of mental illness
  • Promote improved services for people with mental illness and their families
  • Network with community partners
  • Support research related to schizophrenia

Mission Statement of the BCSS Victoria Branch:

“To improve the quality of life for those affected by schizophrenia and psychosis through education, support programs, public policy, and research.”
