The Child Advocacy Center

The Child Advocacy Center (CAC) opened its doors in March 1988. The first year they served 270 children. In 1995 they served 1,006 children, in 2001 they served 2,461 children, and last year (2006) they served over 3,100 children – all from Mobile County. The CAC is the only social service agency in Mobile County that provides free services to help child abuse victims and their non-offending family members, and they are the only agency charged with the responsibility of coordinating services and interventions in cases of child sexual abuse. They have developed a Child Personal Safety Curriculum that is currently being taught in all Mobile County Public Schools.

The mission of the Child Advocacy Center (CAC) is to be the Mobile community response to the problem of child abuse. Abused children are interviewed here by a specialized, trained team of professionals. Children and their non-offending family members are referred for counseling and prepared for the criminal justice process. Also provided are educational and training programs in child abuse awareness and prevention.
