The EDC Center for Children and Technology was founded at Bank Street College of Education in 1981 and changed its affiliation in 1993 to become a division of the Education Development Center, Inc. The Center aims to improve education by altering the circumstances of teaching and learning; they do basic, applied, and formative research and technology development. Much of their work is done in collaboration with schools, universities, libraries, community programs, museums and other institutions concerned with learning, teaching and technology design.
The Center for Children and Technology (CCT) began as the educational research and development division of Bank Street College in New York City. As one of the first education technology research-and-development organizations, CCT recognized early on that digital technologies would change people's understanding of the world in crucial and complex-but unpredictable-ways.
The mission of the Center is two-fold:
- To investigate the roles technology does and can play in children's lives in general and in the classroom in particular.
- To design and develop technology applications that support engaged, active learning. A core component of the Center's mission is a commitment to equity and diversity.
