Human Solutions eliminates barriers to escaping poverty through emergency family shelter, job training, affordable housing, eviction prevention, and emergency household assistance.

In the effort to keep children from suffering the effects of intergenerational poverty, Human Solutions stops the cycle of poverty by offering key opportunities: homes, jobs, and help during a crisis. We offer solutions that are long-lasting, and have a permanent effect on the lives of those they serve.

For more than 20 years, Human Solutions has been working for the economic rights of those in need in East Portland – the families that are just a flat tire – or medical crisis – shy of spiraling into homelessness. By offering the unique opportunity to get out of poverty through our affordable housing, emergency assistance, and job training and connections, thousands of families in East Portland now are no longer suffering the effects of dire poverty. They are now working at livable wage jobs, living in safe homes, and participating in their communities.

They give hope for a great future to thousands of children living in poverty. With their wide-ranging services, families in crisis don’t have to go to multiple locations to achieve the singular goal of escaping poverty. Hundreds of homeless families are now sheltered and moving onto permanent stability with their help. They currently give homes to 539 families who were homeless or at risk of homelessness – and they have 47 more units of housing to be built in 2010. Over 6,000 families keep their heat on every winter with their support, and 400 low income community members are trained in jobs that offer livable wages yearly.
