Established by the Florida legislature in 1967, the Institute is recognized as Florida's premier research and training center for behavioral health services and is a recognized national leader.
FMHI is the largest behavioral health services research center in the United States. The Institute conducts applied research to improve services and outcomes for individuals with mental, addictive, and developmental disorders. In 2004-05, FMHI was awarded $31 million in external funding to support new research projects. Currently, the Institute has $55 million in active research awards.
