Missouri Institute of Mental Health

The Missouri Institute of Mental Health is dedicated to providing research, evaluation, policy and training expertise to the Missouri Department of Mental Health, other state agencies, service provider agencies, and other organizations and individuals seeking information related to mental health and other related policy areas. Specific areas of interests include substance abuse prevention and treatment, mental health promotion and treatment, mental health and substance abuse recovery, suicide prevention, violence prevention, behavioral health, behavioral informatics, epidemiology, and health literacy.

The Institute’s vision is to become the country’s finest mental health public-academic liaison (PAL). MIMH strives to serve the DMH by providing research, policy and training expertise that would not be available without a direct link to a major research university. We measure our service to the state and the nation using traditional academic measures like peer reviewed publications; however, we also realize that the Department will often have immediate, practical and sometimes pedestrian needs that will take precedence over the traditional values of the Academy. The perceived value of the Institute to the DMH management team and key DMH leaders and stakeholders is a critical index of the extent to which the Institute is achieving its goals.
