The Neuroscience Center (NC) is an independent research and teaching institute at the University of Helsinki, located in the Viikki and Meilahti campuses.
Research in Neuroscience Center is organized into four programs: molecular and cellular neuroscience, developmental neuroscience, cognitive and systems neuroscience and basic research of the diseases of the nervous system.
According to its regulations the tasks of the NC are:
- To practice excellent and multidisciplinary research of the nervous system, such as molecular and cellular neuroscience, developmental neuroscience, basic research of diseases of the nervous system, and cognitive and systems neuroscience;
- To organize teaching in the fields of the NC in collaboration with faculties and research units;
- To actively exploit research results for practical applications;
- To practice and promote collaboration with other research units, universities and industry in the fields of the NC;
- To develop and maintain international relations and to promote international visibility of Finnish neuroscience.
