The Sylvia Gearing Women's Center

The Sylvia Gearing Women's Center are a community of therapists dedicated to helping people of all ages achieve personal effectiveness, optimize personal and professional relationships, and increase their emotional intelligence.

Nationally renowned psychologist and author, Sylvia Gearing, Ph.D. has been a pioneer in psychology for over twenty years. As an author and TV expert, she has impacted the lives of millions. From 1997 to 1998, she was a frequent contributor in women's issues on NBC's Today Show in New York. She specialized in a variety of controversial topics pertinent to women. Since the mid nineties, she has appeared on hundreds of newscasts, radio shows, and talk shows including Dr. Phil, Donahue, Geraldo and Sally Jesse Raphael. Previously, Dr. Gearing was an expert on local Channel 11 (CBS) where she reported on hundreds of topics ranging from current world events to important mental health issues (2000 to 2010).

Dr. Gearing is a popular speaker in Dallas and around the country. Frequently requested topics include "Challenging Men and the Women Who Love Them," "Masterful Women, Abundant Lives," "How to Get Along with People Who Refuse to Get Along With You," "Woman Sense Rules: How To Find Yourself When You Didn't Know You Were Missing," and many others topics. Her popular seminars in Dallas have drawn thousands and her high energy, entertaining presentations have entertained audiences for years.

Dr. Gearing graduated Magna cum Laude in psychology from Duke University and completed her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School. She studied at the prestigious Masterson Institute in New York City for several years where she worked with internationally renowned James Masterson M.D. In her clinical practice and in the many leadership positions she has held in hospitals and clinics, Dr. Gearing made many of the discoveries in relationships, stress and women's issues that have brought her national acclaim.

Her first book, Female Executive Stress Syndrome: The Working Woman's Guide to a Balanced and Successful Life (Summit, 1994), launched her national media career Because of her research in women's stress, she has been featured in many publications including the Chicago Tribune, the Plain Dealer, McCall's, Modern Bride, Ladies Home Journal, Weight Watcher's Magazine, Executive Female, the Philadelphia Inquirer, the Dallas Morning News, and First for Women.

Currently, she practices psychology at Gearing Up! and is writing two books. Growing Girls Strong presents her research on the specific steps to increasing empowerment and emotional self-control in teens. Her fourth book, CoupLinks, co authored with her husband, Dr. Milt Gearing is the first book on the market describing the Gearing’s innovative program for changing emotional intelligence skills and communication in marriage.
