The Department of Psychology at Durham University was founded in 1952. It forms part of the Faculty of Science, teaching programmes both at Durham and at Queen's Campus, Stockton.
Since 1970 the department in Durham has occupied an attractive purpose built building which won a Civic Trust design award. It is part of the University's Mountjoy complex, on the Science Laboratories Site, within easy reach of the Main Library.
At Durham University Queen's Campus, Stockton-on-Tees, the department occupies part of the riverside development. The department is also actively involved in research carried out at the Wolfson Research Institute.
90% of all of the research submitted by staff across Durham University was assessed as being at least of International Quality in terms of originality, significance and rigour. Of the research assessed from Psychology, 95% is at least of International Quality. 60% of the Department's research was recognised as Internationally Excellent or World Leading.
