The Psychology Department at Stirling is a large department, combining teaching and research across the subject area. They conduct original, innovative and internationally renowned research. The Psychology Department offer a wide choice of learning opportunities, including a variety of inter-disciplinary undergraduate degree programmes and excellent facilities for postgraduate study. The Department was given the highest possible rating in the last teaching quality assessment.

The Psychology Department has staff with expertise in major areas of Psychology. The core activities of Stirling Psychology are organised into two umbrella Research Centres (Stirling Centre for Memory & Learning across the Lifespan; Centre for Health & Behaviour Change) containing several research units and one larger independent Research Group (Behaviour & Evolution); individuals’ activities overlap several theoretical areas of research.

The Department is committed to support, and provide a focus for, the postgraduate research community. They aim to foster academic contact between research postgraduate students and thereby enhance the research culture of the University. Their commitment to postgraduate training includes an internal training programme, membership of The Stirling Graduate Research School (a generic research skills training programme), and involvement with the The Scottish Universities Psychology Postgraduate Research Training (a nation-wide collaborative training venture).
